“Steve Schimoler, Cleveland’s Mr. Wizard of restaurant food, has a new bag of tricks, this time cold, creamy and kissed with smoke and Mexican chile pepper.

On Friday, the owner of Crop Bistro in Ohio City and the new Crop Kitchen in University Circle is unveiling two new flavors he created for Pierre’s Ice Cream. Yes, and that’s his picture on the pint packages now sold across Northeast Ohio and four states.”

Crop Kitchen’s menu is based on the lunch menu at its big brother in Ohio City. Most appetizers and snacks are priced in the $4-$8 range, with sandwiches at $9-$12 and “big plates” (including side dishes) in the $14-$19 ranges.

The core menu at Crop Kitchen is built around the lunch menu at Crop Bistro, with salads, sandwiches and “big plates” taking up the most real estate. Those items are supplemented by snacks and starters, sushi bar items, and a handful of nightly specials. Those omnipresent chalkboards will tick off the draft beer and wine selections, sushi and fish offerings, nightly features, and desserts.

The West Side Market and Crop Bistro, a Perfect Day Out in Ohio City!

Here’s an idea for your next free day in the Ohio City neighborhood! Stop by the expansive West Side Market and see all of the great vendors and shops it has to offer. Great tastes, great sights. After you’re done, visit Crop Bistro for a memorable meal for either lunch or dinner. The Thrillist recently ranked the West Side Market as one of the “21 Definitive American Food, Drink & Travel Destinations” and we couldn’t agree more.

“There are great food markets all over America these days, but few are as ingrained in the community (it’s 100+ years old) or as representative of it (some of the same vendors have been there 60 years or more). Cleveland native Phoebe Connell explains in this quote we had to excerpt the bejesus out of because she gave us two pages of loving notes:
“The West Side Market, THE JEWEL OF CLEVELAND. This isn’t a farmers market — it’s a place where everyone’s grandmother used to come to get cabbage and a roast for Sunday dinner. Think of it as being in Williamsburg before Williamsburg was fancy: still in the city, but in an actual neighborhood with working class homes.”

If that’s not convincing enough for you, we don’t know what is! Visit the Ohio City neighborhood here in Cleveland and not only stop by Crop, but all of the other great restaurants and shops.

This is a cool image found by great Twitterer @thiswascle, dated 1940. This photo shows a VERY familiar bank building from West 25th and Lorain. This is a very cool look at our past, which we treasure as a part of the Crop experience. Look around and you can almost feel the buzz of activity from a bygone era.
